Navy gateway fosters career chats, learning

The new Navy Knowledge Online portal, at www.nko.navy.mil, em-phasizes career learning and collaboration skills.

Lt. Eric Morris, NKO program manager, said dozens of experts maintain the portal’s chat rooms, discussion boards and document repositories about more than 90 Navy job classifications.

At registration, new users get a buddy list of about a half-dozen experts in their career fields, and they can customize this list to meet their own needs, Morris said.

Morris said he and his colleagues drew heavily on the experience of the Army Knowledge Online portal in designing NKO. Bantu Inc. of Washington provided instant messaging and chat software for both portals.
