Ben Shneiderman is a professor in the University of Marylands department of computer science in College Park, Md. He was founding director of the universitys Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory.

Shneiderman is author of Software Psychology: Human Factors in Computer and Information Systems, and has co-written other books, textbooks and papers.

He has consulted and lectured for organizations and companies, including Apple, AT&T, Citicorp, GE, Honeywell, IBM, Intel, the Library of Congress, Microsoft, NASA and NCR. He has been on editorial advisory boards of nine journals.

He graduated from City University of New York with a B.S. in mathematics and physics and earned a masters and doctorate in computer science from State University of New York at Stony Brook.
