About the GCN Lab
The GCN Lab has been providing unbiased reviews of hardware, software and services to government information technology professionals since 1985—when the Zenith 248 was the government’s most popular PC. Government Computer News’ reviews staff examines hundreds of products each year in a wide variety of categories.
The lab is located at GCN headquarters in Falls Church, Va.. The state-of-the-art secure testing center can review servers, workstations, network software and hardware, and applications.
The lab is constantly in a state of technology refresh, adding new communications hardware and software to handle all of today’s modern applications. In addition to the standard Category 5 type of LAN, the lab also has access to several wireless hubs and alternative OS and LAN environments.
As the market and GCN reader needs have changed in recent years, the lab has scaled back its coverage of low-end, standalone devices and software in favor of comparison reviews centered on enterprise, communications and network-level technologies.
