Colorado links with NIC for Web portal management

The state of Colorado has awarded a five-year contract to NIC Inc. to provide Web portal support to the state’s e-government services.

The five-year contract with four option years may be worth as much as $18 million if all options are exercised, said Chris Neff, a company spokesman.

Under the contract, Colorado Interactive Inc., an NIC subsidiary, will deploy a self-funded model to provide infrastructure and staff expertise to develop, maintain and host an e-government services portal. The state will retain ownership of the content, data and statutory fees.

Colorado Interactive will move state and local e-government services with online payment functionality to NIC’s payment engine, and plans to launch new services through the portal before the end of the year.

Through its subsidiaries, Olathe, Kan.-based NIC now manages official state portals and provides related e-government services for 18 states, including Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Tennessee, Utah and Virginia.
