Army awards communications contract

The Army has awarded DRS Technologies Inc. of Parsippany, N.J., a $222 million contract to provide an integrated, open-standards communications infrastructure for the Multi-National Force-Iraq.

The two-year contract, called the Command and Control Information Technology Infrastructure (C2ITI) program, calls for DRS to supply program management, architectural design, engineering, installation, operation and maintenance, network management, and systems administration support to MNF-I. Working with the Iraqi government, MNF-I provides security and aid to reconstruction efforts.

The funding is a follow-on order to contracts previously awarded to DRS in 2005 and 2004. Under the recent contract, $16 million has been released so far.

“This new award draws upon our team’s extensive track record in the design and operation of communications systems, network management and support for the U.S. military to provide vital stabilization and rebuilding of Iraq’s governmental infrastructure,” said Daniel A. Rodrigues, president of DRS’ Sustainment Systems and Services Group, in a statement.
