Murrett takes helm at NGA

Vice Adm. Robert Murrett officially took charge at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) today during a ceremony held at the agency’s Bethesda, Md., headquarters.

President Bush nominated Murrett for the position less than a month ago to succeed retired Air Force Lt. Gen. James Clapper Jr. The Senate confirmed Murrett’s appointment June 29.

John Negroponte, the Director of National Intelligence—and Murrett’s new boss—welcomed Murrett to his new role, noting that his earlier experience leading the Office of Naval Intelligence will be of great benefit in his new position.

The NGA director serves as both principal adviser to the DNI and the functional manager for geospatial intelligence to the intelligence community.

“NGA’s geospatial intelligence products and analytical judgments are used by our nation’s leaders on a daily basis in making decisions affecting all Americans,” Negroponte said.
