Acquisition councils alter regs to account for IPv6

Federal acquisition councils proposed changes to existing contracting regulations to ensure that the IT products agencies purchase are compliant with Internet Protocol version 6.

In a recent notice, the Civilian Agency and Defense acquisition regulations councils said the minor changes require agency contract officers to comply with IPv6 compatibility requirements.

Comments on the rule changes are due Oct. 23.

Agencies must have their IT systems IPv6 compliant by June 30, 2008.

The rule changes require agencies to provide documentation in their procurement vehicles directing IT purchases to be IPv6 capable. Exceptions are allowed only with advance written notice, the rule said.
