CIA CIO to report straight to director

CIA director Michael Hayden has upgraded the profile of his organization’s CIO to provide a direct-reporting relationship between the top technology official and his own office.

“As part of a plan to give a more corporate focus to key disciplines, including information technology, that not only provide services to our people but shape the basic direction in which the agency moves, the Chief Information Officer will report to the Office of the Director,” CIA spokeswoman Michelle Neff said in response to an inquiry. “Director Hayden told that to the agency workforce last month.”

The agency’s current CIO is Al Tarasiuk Jr., a career CIA official who moved to the post when Alan Wade retired in October 2005.

In making the reorganization, the agency fell more closely in line with the Clinger-Cohen Act, which requires direct or very close organizational reporting from CIOs to agency leaders.
