OMB wants copies of new PIV cards

By Rob Thormeyer, GCN Staff

The Office of Management and Budget is looking for proof that agencies are issuing new identity cards as directed under Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12.

In a recent memo, Karen Evans, OMB administrator of E-Government and IT, said agencies must electronically submit copies of the first HSPD-12-compliant ID card three days after it has been issued.

Under HSPD-12, agencies must begin producing the new cards today.

Agencies that are participating in shared-services programs offered by either the General Services Administration or the Interior Department’s National Business Center are exempt from the memo, Evans said. Those agencies can have their shared-services provider send the cards instead.

After an agency sends the required information, OMB will confirm that the agency has met the deadline and promptly delete the e-mail because of privacy concerns, Evans said.
