GMU, Noblis co-found network research center

George Mason University and research firm Noblis have co-founded a research center to study network behaviors. The Center for Network-Based Systems will study ways to improve the performance, economics and resilience of complex systems that use networks as a central architectural component.

“Through the new Center for Network-Based Systems, Noblis and George Mason University will continue to solve critical problems faced by today’s communications, transportation and other network-based systems in both the private and public sectors,” said Gilbert Miller, Noblis corporate vice president and chief technology officer, in a statement.

This is not the first time the two entities have partnered. With funding from the National Science Foundation as well as other entities, the duo already studied critical infrastructure protection and the challenge of improving voice over Internet Protocol performance, among other matters of interest.

Noblis fellow Andrew Girard and GMU professor Karla Hoffman were named as co-directors of the center.
