InfiniBand integrated into HP BladeSystem
By Trudy Walsh
Mellanox Technologies announced last week that its 20-Gbps InfiniBand adapters and switch product technology now provides the unified input/output (I/O) fabric in the Hewlett-Packard BladeSystem for Oracle Optimized Warehouse.

The HP 4X DDR 1B Mezzanine HCA, based on Mellanox technology, provides the high-performance link for server-to-server and server-to-storage I/O connectivity through an integrated Mellanox-based HP 4X DDR 1B switch module.

The result is input/output performance in the one- to four-terabyte data mart and data warehouse market served by the HP BladeSystem for Oracle Optimized Warehouse.

This takes InfiniBand further into mainstream data center business applications and shows the efficiency of InfiniBand in consolidating I/O traffic, company officials said.

"Enterprises today require high server-to-server and server-to-storage bandwidth and low latency to fuel their increased reliance on compute-intensive Oracle data warehouse applications such as inventory tracking, data mining and business intelligence tools," said Thad Omura, vice president of product marketing at Mellanox. The Mellanox-based InfiniBand technology in the HP BladeSystem for Oracle Optimized Warehouse offers scalability, flexibility and I/O bandwidth throughput that will enable better analysis and business decisions, all in a simple to deploy, turn-key solution, he said.
