Dell goes rugged with Latitude

Dell’s new Latitude XFR D630, the company’s first fully ruggedized laptop PC, meets the Defense Department’s Mil-Std 810F standards for products that can function in extreme environments.

The XFR D630 uses the same components as Dell’s regular Latitude line, so it can share AC adapters, batteries and docking stations with other Latitude laptops.

Dell said the XFR D630 has five times more data durability than its leading competitors and charges batteries at least 30 minutes faster. In addition, it has an outdoor-readable screen, a sealed keyboard designed to withstand rain and dust, and shock-isolated mounting to protect the hard drive, LCD and core electronic elements.

Targeted at government and commercial customers, XFR D630 prices start at $3,899.
