HUD chooses first chief information security officer

By Mary Mosquera, GCN Staff

The Housing and Urban Development Department has named Pat Howard as its first chief information security officer. Howard, who started work yesterday, reports to HUD CIO Lisa Schlosser.

"This is a proactive measure Secretary [Alphonso] Jackson has put in place, and I think it will accelerate our program pretty significantly," Schlosser said.

Howard most recently worked for Titan Systems Corp. of San Diego. He has worked for various consulting firms supporting government and private-sector clients over the past 10 years, specializing in IT security solutions.

Howard also served as an officer in the U.S. Army. He holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Oklahoma and a master's from Boston University.
