Senate OKs Meyerrose as CIO for national intelligence office

Air Force Maj. Gen. Dale Meyerrose has been confirmed by the Senate as the first CIO of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

In August, President Bush nominated Meyerrose for the job. Meyerrose previously served as director of command and control systems at the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and director of architectures and integration at the Northern Command.

Northcom was established after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, to assist in homeland defense missions. In the past several years, Northcom has mobilized numerous times to aid first responders from many federal, state and local agencies in situations such as Hurricane Katrina and the space shuttle Columbia disaster.

The newly created national intelligence office came out of the intelligence reform legislation signed into law by President Bush in December 2004, and is an outgrowth of the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. The office directs all of the agencies in the intelligence community, including the CIA, the National Security Agency, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and those in the Defense Department.

Meyerrose holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Air Force Academy, an M.B.A. from the University of Utah and a degree from the National War College.
