Connecting state and local government leaders

The multistate partnership will encourage collaboration and the advancement of smart technology solutions across regions.

A number of tech advocacy organizations across the country have banded together to form the National Smart Coalitions Partnership.

With more than a hundred local governments, companies and universities as members, the NSCP will represent one of the largest smart city networks in the U.S. The coalition will include the Colorado Smart Cities Alliance, the North Texas Innovation Alliance, the greater Phoenix-area Connective, Illinois Smart City & Region Association, KC Digital Drive, Smart North Florida and the Southern Arizona Smart Region, which is led by the Regional Partnering Center.

By uniting regional networks as the Biden administration is making massive infrastructure investments, NSCP said it will use partnership building, best practice sharing and education to lower the barriers to deploying, replicating and scaling smart solutions across regions.

"Smart regions are the new smart cities. Without a regional, collaborative approach across jurisdictions, new technology solutions will never reach the scale or standardization required to improve complex civic issues," Colorado Smart Cities Alliance Executive Director Tyler Svitak said.

Regional networks have been key in modernizing the U.S.’s smart city infrastructure, and the success of these initiatives has often depended on collaboration and the sharing of best practices.

"The quick pace of emerging technology demands collaboration across local government and across public, private, non-profit and academic organizations," KC Digital Drive Managing Director Aaron Deacon said. "We've developed a deep network of local and national partners engaged in this work, but with the National Smart Coalitions Partners, we have for the first time a network of new peer organizations to learn from and scale our impact."

The NCSP will be introduced at the Smart Cities Connect conference in National Harbor, Md., later this month.
